Cakes in May and a Summer Picnic

Birthday Cake for two special ladies.
It has been spelling mistakes, and no perfection with baking cakes for some time now. This was from Martha Stewart's Baking Handbook, several recipes tried with success. However, I substituted bitter/dark chocolate for the frosting Semi-sweet Chocolate Frosting which turned out to be less successful. Plus I tried halving the recipe for the frosting; not enough.

Yellow Layer Cake with Chocolate Frosting.
This goes to Black and White Wednesdays, hosted this week by Sra

The Cake in the  9" Nordic Ware pan  comes out lighter but the one in the spring-form-cheesecake ( a seasonal product from Nordic Ware) one comes darker: ; both cakes kept at the same time on one rack, side by side. And then one ruin's the shine of  one's most consistent cake pan by thoughtlessly sticking it into the dishwasher!!!
Botanical Ginger Beer, a British product evoking those old Enid Blyton's. Pickled Ginger and Red Onions, Tomato, Garlic, Basil and Olive Dressing for Bruschetta, Boiled Corn.
Other than that, a lazy summer picnic  in our back yard  under the shade ...our neighbour's golden retriever wandering into our midst and comfortably settling under the tree. 90 degree temperature's finally forcing us indoors!
